Employing her adopted city of Los Angeles as an exemplar, Korean installation artist, Da-hee Lim continues her examination of maps and mapping in the upcoming exhibition at the Kristi Engle Gallery.
Lim's past mapping projects have been more general and abstract in nature. In contrast, this installation will focus on the more specific mapping of the Los Angeles area using the imagery of power lines and freeway signs as associative themes. Lim will be using the walls, windows, floors and doorways of the gallery to create her maps as well as creating three-dimensional objects to compliment the two-dimensional works.
Lim's work examines the physical, geographical maps of our lives as well as the spiritual and mental maps that we create for ourselves and how they can interconnect. Da-hee Lim has recently finished her MFA studies at Claremont Graduate University. This will be her first solo exhibition in Los Angeles.
Kristi Engle Gallery devotes itself primarily to solo exhibitions of new works by contemporary artists. It is located in Highland Park, near the corner of Ave. 50 and York Blvd.
